I grew up in a society that always taught me that women too, can have successful careers and excell at men’s professions. Yes we can, but it comes at a heavy price…
I spent most of my life trying to build a music career, and doing everything a career required. Working 16 hours at day, traveling, staying up ‘till late night because it was expected.
But long the way I fell very ill, all because I was going against my nature.
At 25 I had to make the decision of keep on going this way and self destruct or make serious changes and get healthy and be able to…mhm…live.
Don’t get me wrong, we should all have the right and the freedom to follow our dreams and build careers if we want to. But I don’t think most people realize what it really means.
Especially the difficulties it comes with, and the detrimental effects it has on our health.
During my recovery I read many books and articles and watched many videos online, mostly about psychology, evolutionary psychology, sociology and spirituality, it all lead me to the conclusion that:
A CAREER IS A REALLY MANLY CREATION AND TRAIT
Careers were invented by men, mostly subconsciously, or better yet hormonally.
The evolutionary purpose of a career, is for the person, (man) to prove that they have the best genes for mating and highest levels of testorone.
A career is driven by competition, and its main goal is to destroy the other competitors and prove that you are the best at that specific thing. Whatever that thing is, from being the best artist in the world, to the best scientist, or lawyer or politician or whatever…
It is all to “advertise/show” that you have the best genes for procreation, because you were successful enough to destroy the competition. And you are the best provider for your family and offspring because you have made a lot of money…
Men have the psychological and physical advantages to be able to handle the stress that comes with having a career.
Men handle stress, especially long term stress, better than women do.
Although even most men can’t really handle the stress of modern life and a career, that’s why they die so early.
(Just a reminder that we as humans were created to live 100-120 years and not 55-60 years…)
The problem with a career is that it’s the most unnatural way of living.
It is extremely stressful and destructive for the person. But it is even more destructive for women.
LET’S NEVER FORGET THE BIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN
I know that many people argue about this, especially modern women…
We always try to prove that we are just as good as men in professions created by men for men.
We basically want to prove that we can be men.
Well, we aren’t, we are women.
We should stop trying to prove that we can be better men than men themselves.
We should start being proud of being women, of being able to give birth! (which is the only reason anyone ever existed on this planet, including men).
We should be proud of being amazing mothers, proud of our femininity and our unique sensitivity. Proud of the female professions in which women obviously excell. Proud of our social skills and our incredible intuition, and ability to read every little emotional signal another human gives away. Stop trying to become men, even if today’s world is men-shaped…
If a women wants to have a career, go for it!
You probably have enough levels of testosterone to be able to handle the stress of a career, but be sure of it!
Even Lady Gaga ended up with fibromyalgia at 30-something. Fibromyalgia is an illness that develops because of high levels of stress for a long period of time. Here is my article about it:
Many famous and successful people end up with serious stress related illnesses. Even a drug and alcohol addiction is a stress related problem.
MOST WOMEN WANT SAFETY NOT RISK
90% of women do not want a career, and are unable to handle the stress that comes with it.
Women want emotional and financial safety more than anything, otherwise they are stressed and unable to live healthily.
Most women need and want a job that gives them safety and certainties, not a job were risk taking and competing is the main goal.
TESTOSTERONE’S ROLE IN CAREER ORIENTED PEOPLE
Testosterone is the hormone that makes a person want to compete and take risks.
Women have very little testosterone compared to men.
And even that testosterone is mostly present only during ovulation, which is a week out of a month. For the rest of the month that hormone is pretty low in women.
In conclusion, a successful career it’s not the peak of human existence. But it seems to be what most men believe to be a meaningful life…a career is proof that you have enough testosterone and good genes that you can destroy your competitiong and win.
It’s a race of the live fast and die young mentality.
Like I said, if it’s what you want as a man or a woman, fine, but know the risks, the consequences and the reason you want it.
I wish you the best in whatever you want to achieve :).
